The Cavaliers won their district final 65-62 against a tough Freeland opponent, giving them their first District title since 2012. The Cavs came out strong knowing that Freeland could go on a run at any moment but Freeland wasn’t ready for Marco Broome-Hernandez who dominated down low in the first half scoring 13 of his 17 points in the paint in that first half. Freeland made some adjustments at half time but the Cavaliers stayed patient and did their best to take care of the ball in the 3rd which led to a low scoring output from both teams. The final quarter Carrollton continued to stay strong and matching every one of Freelands baskets with one of their own holding a 12 point lead with only a few mins to go. Then Freeland got hot and went on that run that the Cavaliers had prepared for knocking down three 3 point shots in the final minute to give them a chance at the game. But DJ Voltz (16) and Tay Jones (17) maintained the Cavaliers composure and took care of the ball. Tay Jones hit two critical Free throws with 2 seconds remaining to keep the Cavaliers lead at 3. Freeland attempted a long Hail Mary type shot to tie it but it was no good and the Cavaliers went on to Celebrate. The Cavs face the winner of Alma and Shepard on Tuesday in the first regional matchup at 7:30 in Owasso.
