The Carrollton Cavaliers went to a regional game for the first time since 2012 and came away with a win (first since 2001) against Shepherd 60-41. The Cavaliers knew this would be a tough matchup against a stingy Shepherd team who locked down on defense and made the Cavaliers work for every single point the scored. Marco Broome-Hernandez started out hot scoring 8 of Carrollton’s 14 points in the first quarter. Shepherd locked in a little more and scored a few transition points in the second to keep the game close. In the 3rd quarter Shepherd really stayed close and fought with the Cavs basket for basket leaving the Cavs with only a 3 point lead going into the 4th. That’s when Carrollton really kicked it in defensively, Mike Sandoval and Anthony Richardson worked as a team subbing in and out for each other shutting down Shepherd’s point guard and bringing their offense to a grinding halt only scoring 6 points in the entire 4th quarter. The offense finally started to click as well with the aggressive defense being played and the Cavaliers scored 22 in the fourth to put the game away. Carrollton moves on to play Bridgeport in the regional final on Thursday at 7pm at Owosso.
